Welcome to Dee Worrall Photography blog where you can see the featured photograph of the week and read about the experiences made to get the photo.

Last year, when I was taking pictures of sunflowers, I loved the way how the sun highlighted the 'hairs' on the leaves of the sunflowers and how the sun filtered through the flower petals. This is one of my favorite pictures because, well, I just love close ups, but I also love the way how it's a different perspective on flowers. Often times you will see the same or similar shots of sunflowers from the front, but you rarely see one from the back. The layers of leaves and petals are so beautiful!
Take some time this week to look at every day things from a different perspective.
Enjoy!

This past weekend, I was able to do one of my favorite things, wander through the sunflower field and take pictures! I went out early in the morning, which was perfect with some cloud cover. The sunflowers were very tall this year, which was great, because it gives me the opportunity to photograph from a different perspective. The bees were out a lot on this morning as well, so you will see a lot of bees in the new photos. Take a peek through the Sunflowers 2012 folder and let me know which one is your favorite!
BTW - I did not do any editing of these photos. I was really happy with the way they turned out without any editing.
Enjoy!

It's almost time to go back into the Sunflower fields to take pictures of my favorite subject. I'm getting excited! I follow a blog of a Farmer's wife from Grinter's Farm in Lawrence, KS (you can find them on Facebook), and she keeps everyone up to date on their yearly crop and when the field is ready for pictures. The latest news is that several plants will be ready for photos this weekend (7/28). Of course, the fields will continue to bloom for several weeks, so if you aren't able to make it out to a field this weekend, try to make plans to get out to one within the next few weeks. You'll be happy you did!
Have a great Sunflower filled week!

This weekend was the Sunflower Festival in DeSoto, KS, and I had the opportunity to display my work there. It was very hot, but that's Kansas in July! Overall, the show went very well, and I thought I would share one of the photographs that I received a lot of compliments on. This is a picture I took in the sunflower fields last year with my 85mm macro lens. I was out in the fields early, so the dew was still on the sunflowers, and I was able to capture the bee and sky.
Enjoy the picture!

Many people have asked me why I like to take pictures of sunflowers, and my response is always that they have personalities. This photo is a great representation of that, or may make people think I'm a little more crazy than they already think...ha! To me, this sunflower looks like it is winking. I know it's just the petals that are bent down, but tell me, when you look at this picture now, do you think it's winking?
If you are in the Kansas city area, or nearby, come to DeSoto, KS next weekend for the Sunflower Festival. You'll be able to see several different artist and lots of sunflowers. Then you can see what personalities they all have!
